I have to agree with you. Playing without music gives you a real advantage in perception. But if I listen to something while playing it's either Rob Zombie or a band that's actually named Wizard(!). Only one album by them though, named "Odin", focusing on norse mythology.

Mostly I play without any music in the background.
If I feel like listening to music while playing, I often go for some classical music. To my mind, especially DWS fighting suits this sort of music perfectly well and makes the whole setting appear like some weird kind of waltz ...
