Yeah, although we already got 4 awesome servers (VnB, BHB and Tribal), I thought another additional server wouldn't be bad. So I rented an 8 slot server ( which I will upgrade to 10 slot next month) located in Germany, Frankfurt again, set all the stuff again, yea. The only problem left seems to be some settings regarding the connection. While Germans (obviously) have better pings in this server compared to the others, there's also f.e. Tribal Ardet who lives in Serbia. He said his ping in VnB's is around 60-80, however, on my rental server it's around 100-120. So, my question is: Which settings can I change to improve the connection? I already set the maxtickrate to 60 and the maxclientrate to 50000, but that didn't have any effect. Oh, here's the maplist for the lolz. Maps[0]=DM-Hildir.run Maps[1]=DM-[Ultimate]Scrael.run Maps[2]=DM-[Ultimate]Arena Maps[3]=DM-Bothvar.run Maps[4]=DM-HudsonR1.run Maps[5]=DM-Misbegotten.run Maps[6]=DM-Rotarena.run Maps[7]=DM-[Ultimate]Vacant.run

Since there are a lot of questions regarding serveradministration popping up, I'll try to make things a bit clear. First of all, you can't EVER make the ping better. The ping is the time it'll take for a packet to go from the source and reach it's destination and back, nothing more.. nothing less. So it has nothing to do with upload/downloadspeed and tickratesettings. It's related to the distance, current bandwidth and the provider, you can't change it. You can only improve the stability from server to clientside. Changing the maxclientrate will only affect the server side, if I'm right (someone fill me up if you know any detailed information). This will set the max bandwidth each client can use. It's important to know what your maximum uploadspeed is. My server is currently using 20000. I have no idea why you have such a high value for the maxtickrate, high doesn't always mean better. Making it too high will balast the system, and that will also result in ''lag'' from what I know. I'm currently using 40. As I said, I don't know any detailed information. But I do know changing these values too high won't give you a performance boost at all. Don't know who told you that Maybe some laggy Americans will notice a minor difference, don't know if that's worth it. Also a quick hint, I'd try to avoid downloads as much as possible. Only run the complete necessary (norunes, anticheat etc), try to avoid custom skins and custom textures. It'll result in less downloads = less balast, and a lot of people skip long downloads so your server will have more population.

Now I actually understand what effect the settings I've been fucking around actually have, thanks alot! I might change them from time to time, but according to some players the server became smoother since I changed them last time. 'Bout the downloads, I was thinking the same so I just added the 3 mutators which VnB got as well and some more or less standard maps. PS: Maybe add some Sticky- thread to avoid more of such threads? ;D

*Made a small edit to the original post. No problem, I think making it a sticky isn't really necessary. I'm sure some other people disagree with me and use different settings.

People doesnt seem to ever agree with these IPDRV settings. Try finding the settings so players dont complain and then stick to them. Im using 20000 clientrate and 60 tickrate on my server. In the past I had much lower tickrate. But after I got suggested raising it to 60 I feel the server got smoother. Boring info: www.reywarriors.com/miscfiles/rune/tnse/utstuff.html

From what I remember you guys are on the right track. Increasing tickrate does indeed smoothen the server, but only if you have enough bandwidth to back it up. If not the server will drop some of the packages resulting in weird lag. Since this is a rented server I guess it shouldn't be a problem, but if people complain alot about lag especially when the server is full then the tickrate is too high (or the server's bandwidth too low). I'm not 100% sure what maxclientrate does. Also there's a hint I got resently. If you open your rune.ini and change ConfiguredInternetSpeed to 500000 it'll allow you to dl alot faster even larger downloads. Keep in mind that Rune was released about 10 years ago. Your avarage internet speed was much lower back then. Today it's alot faster so increasing those values is probally a good idea. If not you can always undo it. May require some try and error testing

I guess you also can change it by opening the console and type: netspeed 500000.
Yea, increasing the download speed seems to work. I was sceptic when I first heard about it. But it makes a great difference. It shouldnt have any effect on the actual speed when once you get into the server. Because a client cant get more than 20000 byte/second from the server in game.
But it seems like the cap is 500000 when you are downloading from the server.
