To be honest, I think Human Head studios should release the game for free. It's not like anyone still buys the game. Then again, i wouldn't bother taking the effort either. They've made some more nice games since Rune (most notably Prey iirc), and the original developers probably all left doing other stuff in their lives.
I say, we should get a man on the inside. Infiltrate. Make their managers aware they *should* work on a followup to Rune.

Nono, not working on it ourselves. There have been more attempts to create a rune2 by hobby developers than I can count. No, the trick is to show the marketing and directors of Human Head they actually have a golden formula in hand.....a fighting game with freedom of movement. Nothing really compares to Rune.
As long as you show them possible money, they will bite.

most rune newcomers download the hov version. then they see what theyve missed for almost a decade, and dont regret having missed it.
